Seville (Spanish: Sevilla) is the capital of Andalusia and the fourth largest city in Spain, situated on the banks of the smooth, slow Guadalquivir River.

  • It was founded as the Tartessian city of Spal in the 8th century BC; the Tartessians were the indigenous pre-Roman Iberian people of Tartessos.
  • In 1492, it played an important role in the discovery and conquest of America.
  • It is considered a birthplace of flamenco.
  • With an annual average of 19.2 °C (67 °F), it is the warmest city in Europe.
  • The Cathedral, the Alcázar palace complex and the General Archive of the Indies were entered on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1987.
