by Arunas Travel Photography - 15

Slovenia

Ljubljana is the capital and largest city of Slovenia, located along the Ljubljanica River, between the Alps and the Karst.

Fiver interesting facts about Ljubljana:

  • It was founded around 50 BC by the Romans.
  • The first mention of Ljubljana by its German name Laibach dates back to 1144.
  • In 1200, it was granted the city rights.
  • Although the oldest architecture has been preserved from the Roman period, the Old Town got its outline in the Middle Ages.
  • The symbol of the city is the Ljubljana Dragon.
