Trams in Barcelona (Spanish: Tranvías de Barcelona) is a public transit system in Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, operated by Tramvia Metropolità.



Five interesting facts about Tranvías de Barcelona:


  • In 1872, the first horsecar tram was established in Barcelona.
  • The first electric line in the city was opened in 1899.
  • The tram system consists of six lines, divided in two networks: Trambaix and Trambesòs.
  • The tramway is 29 kilometres (18 mi) long with 55 stations.
  • Trams used are of the Citadis 302 type, built by Alstom (France).
