Trams in Barcelona (Spanish: Tranvías de Barcelona) are a public transit system in Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, operated by the Tramvia Metropolità.



Five interesting facts about the trams in Barcelona:

  • In 1872, the first horsecar tram was established in the city.
  • The first electric line was opened here in 1899.
  • The tram system consists of six lines, divided in two networks: Trambaix and Trambesòs.
  • The tramway is 29 kilometres (18 mi) long with 55 stations.
  • They used are of the Citadis 302 type, built by Alstom (France).
