Burano is a small archipelago of four islands located in the northern part of the Venetian lagoon, Italy.

  • It was founded between the 5th and 6th century by the people of the roman town of Altino.
  • The name "Burano" arise from Porta Boreana, the northern door of the city.
  • It is very famous for its lace-making and for its brightly-coloured fishermen's houses.
  • If someone wishes to paint their house, an application must be submitted to the government and it must fit with the town's scheme.
  • The island's church, Chiesa di San Martino Vescovo, has its 53 m leaning bell tower.
