Burano is a small archipelago of four islands located in the northern part of the Venetian lagoon, Italy.
Five interesting facts about the town:
- It was founded between the 5th and 6th century by the people of the roman town of Altino.
- The name "Burano" arise from Porta Boreana, the northern door of the city.
- It is very famous for its lace-making and for its brightly-coloured fishermen's houses.
- If someone wishes to paint their house, an application must be submitted to the government and it must fit with the town's scheme.
- The island's church, Chiesa di San Martino Vescovo, has its 53 m leaning bell tower.
